About us
During my career as an in-house counsel ( lawyer), I observed that MSME, SSI, emerging businesses, and for that matter, many MNCs operating in India lack the in-house legal support (internal legal dept), which large corporates have through their in-house legal departments, for their day-today operations, which covers day today legal support on all business issues. Many times, this is due to lack of awareness, low priority, or economic compulsion. It is observed that this results in financial losses, litigations, and compliance issues, especially while executing contracts.
As a result, the focus area of my practice has been primarily around working with MSME and emerging companies, who do not have in-house legal dept and who are also not accustomed to going to outside counsel for day-to-day legal support. I always focused on working on the preventive side of law viz-a-viz on the remedial side i.e. litigation. The intention was that these MSME, SSI, and emerging companies may not like to spend their time, money, and energy on the litigation and should focus on their business by taking adequate care in their contracts and compliances of applicable laws as a risk mitigation tool, though sometimes litigation is unavoidable.
India is transforming now from a relationship economy to a rule-based economy, which makes it more essential to get day-to-day legal support by such MSME, SSI, and emerging companies.
